Daunting Task!

I haven’t updated in over a month. I am scared to start writing again (because I’m lazy. not because I have anything scary to write). Lots of wonderful things have happened!

  • Greece! I went on a school trip to Greece and saw pretty much everything…unfortunately it is a little fuzzy in my head (school trips never feel real when you get back). It was an odd week getting stuck on top of the Acropolis during a mad thunderstorm, racing at Olympia, running around museums at night taking guerilla photographs (you aren’t allowed to pose with the statues so to get a cool photo you have to get creative), going to the Oracle at Delphi (so awesome up in the mountains), adventuring beneath the city of Mycenae, singing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” at Epidaurus and nearly killing Zoe (we shared a room. that is reason enough). I know that there is a lot to question in this paragraph but if you are reading this you were either on the trip or I have babbled at you about it. Or if you don’t fit into those categories you can just string it all together how you want (you should add in some lasers. The trip needed some more lasers)
  • Tookey and I saw Jonathan Coulton. I’m not sure how I can edit that sentence to show you my excitement. I SAW JONATHAN COULTON!   You know how it is- he is my favourite singer and I love him to pieces and it was the most awesome evening ever. (…it has been like three weeks and I am still hyper). I was also properly introduced to the music of Paul and Storm who were wonderfully funny and as soon as they finished their set me and Tookey looked at each other and started arguing about who was going to get up and buy their CDs (I went in the end). Aaarh and Jonathan was amazing and funny and he played some songs I didn’t know all that well (as well as cover versions of Birdhouse in your Soul by TMBG and Up the Junction by Squeeze- which made me excited) (oh! you can see the set list for the gig here! how cool is that?) and I didn’t mind that he rickrolled us during Mr Fancy Pants. Afterwards he stayed behind and so I got to meet him and I totally didn’t act like a creepy fangirl or anything (go me!):

a photo my dad thinks is creepy

This photo makes me so ridiculously happy

And I also met Paul and Storm (they were really excited about Tookey’s name. They were even more excited when she said they could call her “Tookles”):

My dad probably finds this one creepier

Hell yeah Paul is wearing a Captain Hammer shirt!

And speaking of Captain Hammer: whilst waiting in line for these photos I was singing songs from Doctor Horrible’s Sing Along Blog with the guys behind me (one of them was being Moist in their university’s production! I hope it went well!). Tookey gave me a look for singing with strangers. But everyone there was just so nice! The atmosphere was fantastic! Hanging around with fellow nerds who wave macbooks instead of lighters (I also saw a companion cube when Jonathan sang “Still Alive”) and joining in whole-heartedly whether we were pretending to be pirates or zombies (I recently listened to the latter in french. I am just waiting for someone to write a musical of the french revolution with zombies so this song can get the recognition it deserves) (…it would work! We just need to get Kate Beaton onto this!)

ANYWAY. I’m sorry. That was a lot of rambling about JoCo. I also…went to my schools christmas fair…yay…(ooh actually that is a yay! they sold glittery rice krispy square things!) and got swine flu! I also became vaguely addicted to twitter (not updating it- just seeing what everyone else is doing) and MLIA.Hopefully interesting things will happen in the future: I might be going to see New Moon with Imogen (it depends if we can find some wizard robes and hufflepuff scarves in time. We aren’t going there to swoon over werewolf abs!) and I need to catch up on all the gossip and fling myself into trying to become philosopher of the week (never going to happen but I have my Aristotle bookmark to keep me company). Oh- I also read ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ which I thought was pretty awesome (I kinda love Harding despite everything. It is because Kesey always goes on about how lovely his hands are!) but now I am reading ‘The Graveyard Book’ so I can understand why the internet seems to have a massive crush on him (looking through his website I can kinda understand- he seems adorable) (though he would be more adorable if he had a giant squirrel tail).

OH: I just remembered! Doctor Who! It has been so long since I have needed to say anything about it. I went over to Hannah’s house to watch it and meet all her shiny new friends (who were lovely and insane and one of the girls was wearing Hammer Pants) which was fun. It was a really depressing episode (with random bits which weren’t meant to be funny. Like slow-motion ceiling watching and the whole “LOOK AN OOOOOOOOD!” moment) and I cannot wait until the Christmas special. The Master is coming back! (…though why is he blonde? Do all evil villains go through a blonde phase?)

My Musical (featuring Killer Robots!)

Happy Easter! Or, the more awesome holiday being celebrated today, happy Cosmonautics Day! I was not actually expecting to have a particularly good easter this year because my parents are masters of deception and had convinced me that i was to receive no eggs this year (it is particularly painful when they do this at christmas, or when it turns out they weren’t actually lying). Although because our garden is currently flooded and overgrown the easter egg hunt was limited to the conservatory and stone-outsidey-place-where-the-washing-line-is. I got 3 eggs and an easter bunny- which was reason enough to do a little celebratory dance to “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer and spend the rest of the day wearing a scarf tied around my head and hoop earrings pretending to be a pirate (i was re-reading Lord of the Flies today, which explains why i needed a distraction). I hope everyone else had a good easter! (its weird how even when i was younger and went to a CoE primary school and had to go to church etc. easter was never about Jesus. Ah well.  Enjoy your candy!)

Other than chocolate it has been an amazingly boring time recently. Still pretending to revise. Still reading What is the What which is as depressing and also as amazing as ever. (actually so bored i stopped blogging to try and beat my high score on Snake Extreme 2 on my phone. gah).

In an attempt to beat the boredom i have been listening to The Aquabats, which is weird because i don’t usually listen to ska/rock…people pretending to be superheroes. Though i think more people should dress up as superheroes! I would personally enjoy it if they weren’t so tight and made of spandexy. I was thinking earlier about trying to make up a very cool super villain and ended up just deciding that if anyone was going to take over the earth i would want it to be Jonathon Coulton in a top hat and monocle.

(okay: this is future me writing when reading over this post. this next bit goes a tad crazy. my sincere apologies)

See, i was listening to ABBA earlier (yes. i am slightly ashamed) and decided that the songs could have been used to make a way cooler musical!. One about…killer robots. As in, Super Troopers.  And i decided to chuck in songs by Jonathan Coulton and the Silver Jews as well (because…i am not sure why). And then i remembered the song Super Trooper was all about how someone loved and was comforted by them so i decided that maybe some poor woman made them to be her husband substitute after he was murdered. And JoCo steals these robots and reprogrammes them to be evil world taking over robots. Thus twisting “Does Your Mother Know” from a cheesy and slightly pervy pop song to a threatening refrain sung whilst shooting teenagers who break curfew. It would also be fun to choreograph a dance to “Todd the T100” and of course, those who disobey are sent to Chiron Beta Prime (i love that song!).

Anyway. David Berman, our hansome-ish anti-hero, and his wife Cassie are hanging out past curfew (cue: Punks in the Beerlight) and are surprised by killer robots who steal Cassie to take back to JoCo (cue: Skullcrusher Mountain) and David Berman mourns (cue: The Winner takes it All, then lots of other songs as his mourning progressess. I guess Sometimes a Pony gets Depressed and then maybe when hes more suicidal My Pillow is the Threshold). So he decides he will defeat and gathers up some sidekicks! He gets Code Monkey (cue the song) who decided to hand in his resignation to boring manager Rob and become a superhero in order to win the heart of the secretary, he saves Tom (from Re: Your Brains) from hordes of zombies and gets  Leonard Nimoy to try and stop him mourning over his short lived affair with Bigfoot (Under the Pines). So he gathers them all around, explains his plan (by singing Take a Chance on Me obviously) then decide to make their headquarters on the party barge (…cue Party Barge).

So now they need to find JoCos hiding place. They happen to come across the crazy lady who started it all who tells them where to find him (cue: There is a Place). So they make their way to Skullcrusher mountain where Cassie is still imprisoned (i can’t decide what song this should be! maybe she could have befriended one of the guards who sings Chiquitita to her. Or maybe she sings Candy Jail in bitter tones!). David Berman and his sidekicks manage to defeat the hungry mountain wolves, though one manages to bite David’s hand off (cue: SOS)….

Okay that is as far as i got. It is just a rough outline of this…musical thing. It probably doesn’t make that much sense if you don’t know the songs, but even without that knowledge i believe it could be awesome. Especially since it has killer robots in (which makes anything pretty awesome). And seeing as David Berman said he might go into writing screenplays…

Presidents!

This is just a quick note to say (note from me of the future reading this thing back…i didn’t realise this would mainly be about Presidents. oh well):

  • Happy Birthday Mr President! Well…Mr Dead…ex-president George Washington. Today is your birthday! And President’s Day and all that. I’m sorry Lincoln got more celebrated because its his 200th and this is your 277thwhich isn’t a nice round number or anything. It sucks even more because today isn’t actually your real birthday (i was shocked when i wikied that 2 seconds ago!). This may come as a surprise to you, but Washington’s birthday is actually February 22nd, we just celebrate it on the third Monday of February which sounds a bit stupid but i guess its so there is a 3 day weekend. Not like i can enjoy it (well…it is half term…and the 22nd is a sunday…). But Happy Birthday anyway- you may not be attractive, but your signature was pretty cool
  • I spent a great deal of last night finding pictures of the signatures on the Declaration of Independence. William Whipple- i want to marry you and become Mrs Olivia Whipple and go live in New Hampshire with you and Prince Whipple (who was a slave. shame on you).  But you know…if you want to be a freak and marry your first cousin….
  • Today i went to Hannah’s to watch Casanovayet again (with Tennant! yaaays!) which was fun. As it always is. Fun yet towards the end i get all depressed…yeah…i can link this bullet point to Presidents as well because i gave Hannah a little rant on Lincoln at the train station (i cannot stop thinking about him! him and his lopsided face are haunting me!)
  • Oh, plus on the train to Hannah’s place i was reading some of The Audacity of Hope. He just is the most adorable person ever (…Barackhas become my “He with a capital H”). The writing is excellent and he just seems so…down to earth and everything he says seems really right. Plus its kinda cute when hes writing about the White House because its like “aaaw, past-you didn’t know you were going to end up living there!”
  • I am also becoming more andmore in love with Jonathan Coulton (link to presidents: he has two songs listing them. i am trying to learn the lists. Its slow going so far). He is genius. Leonard Nimoy and Bigfoot having a fling? Giant squid unable to love because he crushes everything? Eating a steak-taste-better pill? Mr Fancy Pants? I love you and i wish we were married. Screw William Whipple! Your name shortens to JoCo which is even cooler! Okay- i don’t really want to marry JoCo, i just want him to play some shows in London (yes, i have used that “Demand Coulton to come to your city!” thing and you saidyou checked the numbers!) and i can go and be all starstruck and buy a t-shirt and stuff andyou seem like the kind of person who does after-showmingling. Please please find this blog somehow andread this far. Because i think your lyrics are amazing (not just the funny stuff, i mean “Drinking with You” and “Big Bar World One” are really sweet) and you look cuddly (i really want a hug now. i had a lot of group hugs earlier today. i miss them. i miss my Casanova people) and you are a nerd icon  who allows lots of free downloading  and you also have a ginger beard. That is just a whole lot of awesome 🙂

Very Boring Yays.

I have found the man who is going to help me get over the end of the Silver Jews. I am actually so ridiculously happy right now. Jonathon Coulton. I am in love with the song Skullcrusher Mountain (its about an evil scientist falling in love with one of his captives!!!). and Re Your Brains (a zombie writing to one of his colleagues to ask if he would consider letting zombies eat his brain). And maybe i am just a little hyper because today was Green Day. Boo Yeah. Our new mufti-day where we dress in green and travel to and from school in an eco-friendly way. Which is…fun i guess.

It has been a pretty uneventful week. Getting back mock results. Going out for my mum’s birthday. Mocking my chemistry teacher (its just too easy. though maybe i shouldn’t have slow clapped. that was mean, but he was giving us test!) and for some reason, we have been talking about religion a lot this week. One of my friends recently converted to Catholicism (well, not really recently, but only her close friends knew and just now news has spread to the general populous) and we’ve been calling her by her confirmation name (its Nina- how spooky is that?) and being all “yeah but do you believe THIS?!” and generally testing her faith (she thinks this is a good thing for us to be doing so its cool).

I am not entirely sure if there is anything to blog about. This is sad. (oooh! Bleb! Bleb is a real word! that’s cool- right guys?). I have reached 102 blog posts. I am probably spending a bit too much time on the internet. Maybe i should spend more time watching TV instead.  Or catching up on my reading (after The Princess Bride…do i need any other books? Yes. Yes i do. I am just finding it difficult to pick up books and read them. I promised Fred i would read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close…i have been saying “Fred” repeatedly recently. today i moved on to saying “macaroni and cheese” over and over again instead. sometimes, it feels like i am some faulty tape player just repeating words- this happens a lot. on a similar theme, i am no longer as articulate as i used to be. i now say things like “yo yo yiggedy yo”- which i believe is actually a quote from the Scooby Doo movie- at every opportunity. And attempt some gangsta hand-signs. this is not really something which is working out for me…i actually have no idea how this bracket started).

Oooh! OOH! Dr McNinja! Did anyone happen to see that über-cool twist! Oh noes! It isn’t an evil robot temple guard! Its Dr McNinja’s ex-girlfriend only we don’t know what happened in that relationship or what ended it yet! (hah- i bet you are all totally wishing you read Dr McNinja right now. go. go google now). I think my favourite McNinja storyline was Punch Dracula. That was just….so awesome. too awesome for words (plus it had some amazing alt. text) but really you should just go read all of them (okay- so i haven’t read the guest strips but who does!?)

For some reason on mufti days i get very positive. I feel this strange urge to compliment everyone i like (which kinda sounds like i am fishing for compliments myself. i’m not. i’m wearing a mickey mouse jumper i mean…yeah….i have no idea why people still talk to me. Especially Suzy. my conversations with her today all went like this:

(Suzy is in the middle of something, i am hanging around)

Me: ooh! Suzy come over here!

(Suzy comes over to me)

Suzy: Yeah?

Me: OOOOH! (*pokes an item of Suzy’s clothing*)

seriously though- her clothing was just asking to be poked. it looked so fun!)
